CLIMBING AS A CATALYST FOR CONSERVATION
From the high-altitude granite walls of Patagonia to the unique limestone formations of Colombia, Latin America is a climber's paradise, with dramatic cliffs sculpted by elements and time. Beyond the thrill of the ascent, venturing into these wild places fosters a deep appreciation and underscores the urgent need for their conservation.
Recognizing climbing as a powerful catalyst for environmental stewardship, Acceso PanAm is on a mission to ensure Latin America’s climbing areas are accessible and protected for years to come. The organization utilizes advocacy, conservation efforts, landowner negotiations, and education to promote and conserve climbing and mountaineering areas across the region.
SCALING NEW HEIGHTS IN BOLIVIA
Since 2021, Freyja has supported Acceso PanAm’s work in Bolivia to equip, maintain, and protect climbing areas in the La Paz, Santa Cruz, Cochabamba, and Oruro departments, as well as to develop a long-term community of environmentally-minded climbers.
At the onset of our partnership, Freyja supported Acceso PanAm in conducting a crucial survey on the status of climbing and mountaineering in Bolivia. The resulting data proved instrumental in securing Acceso PanAm a multi-year, Freyja-associated grant for the co-development of a robust conservation and climbing project, promoting the long-term sustainability of climbing in the country.
